How to Know Your Skin Type Exactly

1 min read

A simple test at home

Cleanse your face well and wait a full hour without applying anything. Then look at your face: if it shines all over, your skin is probably oily; if it feels tight or slightly flaky, it is dry; if the shine is only on the forehead and nose, it is combination; and if there is no clear change, it is normal.

Sensitivity is a trait, not a separate type

Any skin type (oily, dry, combination or normal) can also be sensitive. Signs include quick redness, itching, or reacting easily to new products.

Your skin type can change

Weather, age and hormonal changes can all gradually change your skin type. It is natural to adjust your routine from time to time instead of sticking to the same products forever.

Choose products for your current type

Once you know your skin type, choose a moisturiser and cleanser that suit it: a richer moisturiser for dry skin, a lighter oil-free one for oily skin, and different products for different areas on combination skin if needed.

Do not rely only on the product label

"For all skin types" on a product does not always mean it is best for your skin specifically. Try a small amount first even if the description is general.

These are general tips. For persistent skin or hair concerns, please see a dermatologist.
